Decision support tools for ecosystem management
Building on the most advanced experiences in ecosystem management, the project develops
and tests tools to support the ecosystem management processes at different spatial
and temporal scales. These tools will address the needs of key stakeholders and
are being developed though their direct involvement. The tools will gradually evolve
in a Decision Support Toolbox for ecosystem management (DST) comprising both participatory
and science based modules. The tools will be provided to users progressively, starting
with simpler applications containing geographic background layers, environmental
and socio-economic data and gradually integrating modelling and analytical components
to support systemic decision making. Such an approach will make it possible to smoothly
build the capacity of the stakeholders while gradually institutionalizing the new
tools developed in various stages of project implementation.
This section presents the tools and methodologies that have been developed by the
project or are currently in development. The content in this section is work in
progress and expands as the project progresses and new tools are developed.
